Tra le giovani band della nuova ondata thrash metal, sicuramente un citazione la meritano i britannici Thrasherwolf, da poco fuori con il nuovo album “Inside the Sickened Mind”.
Benvenuti! Potreste presentare la vostra band ai lettori italiani?
Ciao, grazie per questa chiacchierata, siamo i Thrasherwolf, una band thrash metal di quattro elementi di Londra, Inghilterra
Come definireste il vostro sound?
Suoniamo thrash tradizionale, ovviamente prendendo elementi dai migliori come Kreator, Exodus e Megadeth e mescolandoli con new wave come Havok, Demolizer ecc. e poi buttando dentro qualche altra influenza dal metal tradizionale (che a sua volta ha influenzato le band thrash originali…).
Il vostro album di debutto ha garantito alla vostra band una certa visibilità internazionale, quanto è stato difficile per voi registrare un successore di “We Are Revolution”?
Ci sono stati un bel po’ di cambi di formazione dopo “WAR”, con Dan e Jack unici membri originali rimasti, quindi Zaq e Rai hanno portato nuova ispirazione e idee da mescolare con i riff e le canzoni che avevamo già nel cassetto. Abbiamo effettivamente scritto troppo per questo album, quindi abbiamo alcune tracce che usciranno l’anno prossimo come singoli o forse un EP e stiamo già scrivendo nuovo materiale… quindi ci stiamo divertendo a scrivere e suonare nuove tracce… nessun blocco musicale ancora!
Quali sono le principali differenze tra l’album di debutto e “Inside The Sickened Mind”?
Come abbiamo detto, la formazione è cambiata e ha portato ulteriori dinamiche alla band, ma principalmente siamo migliorati, abbiamo suonato centinaia di spettacoli, ci siamo esercitati molto e siamo maturati come musicisti e cantautori, e come individui siamo maturati e abbiamo sviluppato la nostra visione della vita.
“Inside The Sickened Mind” è un concept album?
No, non nel senso tradizionale, tutte le canzoni sono indipendenti e sebbene ci siano alcuni temi comuni in alcune tracce, non c’è però una storia unica dall’inizio alla fine.
Cosa mi dite del vostro primo singolo “G.B.H.”?
“G.B.H.”, riguarda quel qualcosa dentro ognuno di noi, quel qualcosa di profondo che se chiamato in causa scatenerà il desiderio primordiale, il bisogno e la capacità di causare danni fisici gratuiti se si va troppo oltre!
Siete fan dei G.B.H. (la band)?
Abbiamo un enorme rispetto per il loro atteggiamento e la loro longevità nella scena musicale, band come loro e gli altri pionieri del punk sono parte della nascita del thrash, quell’etica e quella filosofia DIY che si sono mescolate al metal per creare il thrash fanno parte della nostra eredità, quindi sì, grandi fan.
Cosa potete dirmi dell’edizione speciale su cassetta della Vicious Witch Records?
Oggigiorno è facile autoprodurre roba e avremmo potuto semplicemente ordinare delle cassette, ma quando il nostro management ha parlato con Nik della Vicious Witch e si è offerto di pubblicare una cassetta in edizione limitata, sapevamo che sarebbe stata una grande opportunità, la Vicious Witch ha delle fantastiche band underground nel proprio roster, ha dei fantastici distributori e sapevamo che volevamo farne parte, quindi sarà qualcosa di speciale per i nostri fan e i collezionisti là fuori!
Vi vedremo presto in Europa o la Brexit sta creando problemi alle band inglesi?
Speriamo di sì! Siamo stati “proposti” per molte apparizioni ai festival in Europa l’anno prossimo e se riusciremo a farne parte faremo un mini-tour, altrimenti noleggeremo un furgone e ci impegneremo, se possibile, la Brexit è solo una questione di burocrazia, visti e amministrazione fiscale che possiamo risolvere, quindi è un grande obiettivo per noi l’anno prossimo, ma dobbiamo farlo per bene!

Welcome! Could you introduce your band to Italian readers?
Hi, thanks for chatting with us, we are Thrasherwolf a four piece Thrash Metal band from London, England
How would you characterize your sound?
We play traditional thrash, of course taking elements from the best of the originals such as Kreator, Exodus and Megadeth and blending them with new wave like Havok, Demolizer etc and then throwing in a few other influences from traditional metal (which influenced the original thrash bands so…)
Your debut album, gave to your band international visibility, how difficult was for you to record a successor to “We Are Revolution“?
There’s been quite a few line up changes since “WAR”, with Dan and Jack being the remaining original members, so Zaq and Rai brought fresh inspiration and idea’s to blend with the riffs and songs that we already had in our back pocket. We actually over wrote for this album so have a few tracks that will come out next year as singles or maybe an EP and we are already writing new material..so we are enjoying writing and playing new tracks… no musical blocks yet!
What are the main differences between the debut album and “Inside The Sickened Mind”?
As we mentioned, the line up has changed and brought additional dynamics to the band, but mainly we have got better, we’ve played 100’s of shows, practiced a lot and matured as musicians and songwriters, and just as individuals we have matured and developed our outlook on life.
Is “Inside The Sickened Mind” a concept album?
No, not in the traditional sense, all the songs sit independantly and although there are some overlapping themes with some tracks there’snot a cohesive story from start to finish.
What’s about your first single “G.B.H.”?
“G.B.H”, is about that something inside all of us, that something deep that if called upon will unleash the primordial desire, need and ability to commit Gratuitous Bodily Harm if we are pushed too far!
Are you G.B.H. (the band) fans?
We have massive respectfor their attitude and longevity in the music scene, bands like them, and the other punk pioneers are part of the birth of thrash, that DIY ethos and ethics that blended with metal to create thrash is part of our heritage, so yeah big fans.
What can you tell me about the special cassette edition from Vicious Witch Records?
It’s easy to self release stuff these days and we could of just ordered some cassettes, but when our management spoke to Nik from Vicious Witch, and they offered to release a limited edition cassette we knew it was a great opportinity, Vicious Witch have some amazing underground bands on their roster, they have some awesome distro partners and we knew that we wanted to be part of that, so it’ll be something special for our fans and the collectors out there!
Will we see you in Europe soon or is Brexit causing problems for English bands?
We hope so! We have been ‘pitched’ for lots of festival appearances in Europe next year, and if we can get on one of those we will make it into a mini-tour – otherwise we will rent a van and make it happen if we can, Brexit is just a paperwork, visa and tax administration issue which we can sort, so it’s a big target for us next year, but we need to do it right!
