Ciao Chris, mentre preparavo le mie domande, si è diffusa la notizia della sparatoria che ha coinvolto Jake E. Lee. Ho letto da qualche parte che eri in competizione con lui per il posto di chitarrista nella band di Ozzy Osbourne. Tu e Jake siete amici? Vuoi mandargli i tuoi migliori auguri?
Spero che Jake si riprenda bene e mi è dispiaciuto sentire quella notizia. Conoscevo un po’ Jake alla fine degli anni ’80 ma non eravamo amici…

Hai scelto di intitolare il tuo nuovo album “War Machine” perché è un nome assolutamente metal o perché ha le sue radici nella realtà odierna che vede molteplici fronti di guerra sulla nostra vecchia Terra?
“War Machine” parla della band Impellitteri, la nostra band ha dovuto lottare per sopravvivere e guadagnarsi il rispetto dei nostri fan… ci alleniamo e ci impegniamo costantemente per scrivere, registrare ed eseguire il miglior metal possibile… e quindi ci sentiamo sempre come una war machine che combatte per conquistare il vostro rispetto! E anche, sì, una macchina da guerra a causa di ciò che stiamo vedendo in Russia e Ucraina… e in Medio Oriente…

Quanto ti senti un metallaro? “Out of My Mind (Heavy Metal)” sembra quasi una dichiarazione d’amore verso il nostro genere musicale preferito.
“Out of My Mind (Heavy Metal)” è un inno che abbiamo scritto per i nostri fan che vivono e respirano heavy meta, è una canzone che celebra l’amore per l’heavy metal e l’hard rock!

Restiamo su “Out of My Mind (Heavy Metal)”, il riff iniziale mi ha ricordato “Burn”, poi la canzone esplode in una tipica canzone degli Impellitteri. Hai in qualche modo tratto ispirazione dal famoso brano dei Deep Purple?
No, quando ho scritto la canzone, stavo suonando questo riff che aveva molti movimenti di accordi in Sol, che è una delle tonalità preferite di Ritchie Blackmore. Tuttavia, dopo aver completato la canzone mi sono reso conto che suonava molto come avrebbe potuto suonare “Burn” dei Deep Purple se Ritchie Blackmore avesse scritto quella canzone nel 2024! Sento delle somiglianze!

Domanda a bruciapelo: questa è la migliore formazione degli Impellitteri?
Sì!

Quando hai scritto le nuove canzoni, sapevi già con quali musicisti le avresti registrate?
Sì!

Hai registrato i tuoi ultimi album per un’etichetta italiana, Frontiers Music, hai un cognome di origine italiana. Parli italiano e hai legami familiari con il mio Paese?
Vorrei tanto saper parlare italiano: sì, sono italiano, i miei bisnonni venivano dall’Italia e si trasferirono a New York City!

Restiamo sul tuo passato, ho molti dei tuoi vecchi album, ma ho acquistato il cofanetto “The Complete Beast 1987-2009”. Cosa ne pensi di questa uscita?
Dei fan hanno pubblicato il cofanetto per celebrare il nostro catalogo, ma preferisco sempre di più gli album originali perché la qualità del suono è sempre migliore.

Con quale canzone di “War Machine” vuoi salutare i nostri lettori?
“Hell On Earth”! Adoriamo suonare questa canzone dal vivo… è fantastica!

Hi Chris, while I was preparing my questions, the news about the shooting involving Jake E. Lee spread. I read somewhere that you were in competition with him for the guitarist spot in the Ozzy Osbourne band. Are you and Jake friends? Would you like to send him your best wishes?
I hope Jake has a healthy recovery and I was saddened to hear that news.    I knew Jake a little in the late 1980s but we were not friends…..

Did you choose to title your new album “War Machine” because it is an absolutely true metal name or because it has its roots in today’s reality that sees multiple war fronts on our old Earth?   
“War Machine” is about the band Impellitteri. Our band has had to fight to survive and earn the respect of our fans, we constantly practice and push our selves to write, record, and perform the greatest metal possible, and so we always feel like we are a war machine battling for your respect! And also, yes war machine based on what you are seeing with Russia and Ukraine… and the Middle East.

How much do you feel like a metal head? “Out of My Mind (Heavy Metal)” almost seems like a declaration of love towards our favorite musical genre.
“Out of My Mind (Heavy Metal)”. Is an anthem we wrote for our fans that live and breath heavy meta. It is a song that celebrates the love for heavy metal and hard rock music!

Let’s stay on “Out of My Mind (Heavy Metal)”, the initial riff reminded me of “Burn”, then the song explodes into a typically Impellitteri song. Did you somehow draw inspiration from the famous Deep Purple “Burn”?
No, when I first wrote the song I was playing this riff that had a lot of chordal movements in the key of G, which happens to be a favorite key of Ritchie Blackmore. However,  after the song was completed I realized it sound very much like what Deep Purple “Burn” may  have sounded like if Ritchie Blackmore wrote that song in the year 2024!  I do hear the similarities!

Point blank question: is this the best Impellitteri lineup?
Yes!

When you wrote the new songs, did you already know which musicians you would record them with?
Yes!

You recorded your last albums for an Italian label, Frontiers Music, you have a surname of Italian origin. Do you speak Italian and do you have family ties with my Country?
I wish I could speak Italian: yes, I  am Italian, my great grand parents came from Italy and moved to New York City!

Let’s stay on your past, I have many of your old albums, but I bought the boxset “The Complete Beast 1987-2009”. What do you think of this release?
Fans released the box set to celebrate our back catalogue, I always like original albums the best as the sound quality is always better.
