“Nova”, l’album dei Vibratacore uscito nel 2025, raccoglie brani composti e riarrangiati nel tempo, che raccontano l’evoluzione sonora del gruppo tra death metal svedese, blackened hardcore e crust. Oltre al valore musicale, “Nova” è legato a una campagna crowdfunding a sostegno di Sandro “Nova” Novelli, batterista della band rimasto gravemente ferito in un incidente nel 2023. Un progetto di forte condivisione umana e di etica DIY. Ne abbiamo parlato con Fango.

Ciao Fango, grazie per averci concesso questa intervista. “Nova” è il vostro ultimo album, uscito nel 2025, e rappresenta un momento molto speciale nella storia dei Vibratacore. Puoi raccontarci come è nato il disco e come avete affrontato il processo creativo in questa fase così particolare della vostra carriera?
Ciao Giuseppe, un saluto a tutti i lettori de Il Raglio del Mulo e grazie a te per averci invitato. Sì, “Nova” è il nostro ultimo album e, per un sacco di motivi, è un lavoro per noi molto significativo. Innanzitutto perché è dedicato al nostro batterista (Sandro “Nova” Novelli) che per un incidente avvenuto nell’estate del 2023 non ha più avuto, purtroppo, la possibilità di suonare. E proprio a causa di questo incidente che abbiamo dovuto interrompere la produzione dei nuovi brani e di conseguenza Nova è una sorta di raccolta di pezzi inediti, sia composti che riarrangiati con Sandro nel momento del suo ingresso nel gruppo. Va da sé che l’album è un “racconto” dell’evoluzione stilistica che abbiamo avuto negli anni.

Musicalmente, “Nova” spazia dal death metal svedese al blackened hardcore e crust. Come avete lavorato per integrare queste diverse influenze mantenendo la vostra identità sonora e l’evoluzione stilistica della band?
In realtà le influenze che si rintracciano in “Nova” appartengono ad una mutazione compositiva costante che dal 2001 (anno di fondazione della band) ad oggi ha portato i Vibrata a cercare soluzioni progressivamente più dirette ed estreme. Questa direzione, le esperienze e le influenze musicali di ognuno, ci hanno naturalmente portato verso sonorità riconducibili al sound tipico del death-metal svedese e del blackened crust. Tuttavia, a nostro parere, all’interno dell’album sono individuabili anche altre suggestioni musicali, quali ad esempio il post-core, riferibili alle nostre prime produzioni.

C’è un concept dietro “Nova” e, in particolare, come si sposa con il sampler vocale contenuto in “No God”? Potete raccontarci l’idea alla base di questo brano e del disco nel suo insieme?
In realtà non c’è un vero e proprio concept dietro “Nova” appunto perché alcuni brani sono stati scritti ancora prima di quelli contenuti in “Resurgita” (l’ultimo nostro ep uscito nel 2019 e lavoro che ha visto l’ingresso di Sandro nel gruppo) e poi riarrangiati insieme a lui. Piuttosto l’immagine di copertina che rappresenta l’esplosione di una stella, appunto una Supernova, è un chiaro riferimento alla decisione di dedicare l’album a Sandro. Su “No God” il sample proviene dal film “Alabama Monroe” e, visto che il monologo contro la religione si adattava al testo della canzone, abbiamo deciso di usarlo. È una riflessione su quanto, in nome di un presunto Dio, nella storia interi popoli abbiano commesso atrocità efferate sui propri simili e ostacolato di fatto il processo di coscientizzazione dell’uomo.

Il disco è stato realizzato in coproduzione con diverse etichette e collettivi (Mondo Chaos, Malammòre DIY, Rabid Dog Records, Rumori in Cantina, THC DIY Prod. e Wrong Disk Records). Come è nata questa collaborazione e quanto è stata importante per il progetto?
Diversamente dalle nostre produzioni precedenti, per questo lavoro abbiamo deciso di coinvolgere più etichette anche e soprattutto per condividere e veicolare il più possibile il significato e la motivazione che è alla base dell’album. Inoltre, ci ha stimolato l’idea di pubblicare qualcosa che fosse il più possibile il frutto di una condivisione “dal basso”. Ci teniamo a ringraziare davvero di cuore tutti per la solidarietà e la vicinanza dimostrata.

“Nova” è legato a una campagna crowdfunding volta a supportare Sandro nelle spese mediche e logistiche quotidiane. Quali emozioni vi ha suscitato vedere la vicinanza dei fan e della scena DIY e l’accoglienza che ha avuto questa iniziativa?
Sì, lo scopo della pubblicazione dell’album risiede proprio nella promozione della campagna crowdfunding a cui il disco è legato. Sandro ha dovuto radicalmente cambiare la sua vita da un giorno all’altro e si può immaginare come possa essere complicato convivere con una condizione di tetraplegia. Inoltre le spese a cui adesso deve far fronte sono davvero significative. Da quando abbiamo deciso di rendere pubblica la notizia c’è stata una vicinanza e una solidarietà sorprendenti e per le quali siamo davvero molto grati. Non solo c’è stata una massiccia partecipazione al crowdfunding ma tanti collettivi e promoter hanno organizzato serate di benefit e raccolta fondi. Non ci aspettavamo una condivisione e una partecipazione così ampia. Purtroppo siamo ancora lontani dal raggiungere l’obiettivo necessario ma è già molto anche solo emotivamente.

Puoi presentarci più nel dettaglio la campagna di raccolta fondi e spiegare a chi è interessato come può partecipare e contribuire?
Sì, esatto, esiste una campagna crowdfunding per contribuire alle spese che Sandro deve sostenere quotidianamente. Abbiamo creato questa raccolta fondi contestualmente all’uscita dell’album, pensata e rivolta soprattutto a tutte quelle persone che non hanno la possibilità di seguirci dal vivo. Molte delle tracce di “Nova” sono state arrangiate insieme a Sandro prima del suo incidente, comprese le due bonus track registrate da lui. Quanto della sua visione musicale è riuscita a rimanere nell’album finale e che significato hanno queste tracce per voi e per i fan?
Come già anticipato alcuni pezzi di “Nova” sono stati proprio composti con Sandro, mentre altri (già scritti al momento dell’ingresso di Sandro nella band) sono stati riarrangiati insieme a lui. Nell’album la batteria, per evidenti motivi, è stata registrata da un turnista (Stefano Rutolini – Stormo, Hatred, Baphomet’s Blood etc) ma nella track list compaiono anche due versioni registrate da Sandro proprio nel 2023 in previsione di uno split poi mai pubblicato. Avere queste produzioni ci ha permesso di realizzare un album che raccogliesse anche il suo contributo materiale e che gli rendesse realmente omaggio. Di fatto l’interpretazione musicale di Sandro all’interno di “Nova” è rimasta inalterata nonostante eseguita da un turnista. Probabilmente ciò può dipendere dal fatto che il suo stile musicale è sempre stato molto caratteristico e riconoscibile. “Nova” è stato il prodotto finale di un percorso fortemente significativo e il messaggio principale dietro questo album è la conferma di una formazione che resta unita, nonostante gli ultimi avvenimenti. Quindi, anche per i fan, crediamo che sia stato importante toccare con mano il nostro progetto di gruppo perché “Nova” non sarebbe ciò che è senza questo nostro legame.

Avete in programma dei concerti o tour per promuovere “Nova”? Se sì, quali sono le date e le città previste?
Il tour di “Nova” è iniziato con la pubblicazione del disco e andrà avanti fino alla fine del 2026. Ci sono attualmente tante persone, associazioni, locali o circoli culturali, che si sono proposti per sostenere la raccolta fondi e questo è davvero significativo per noi. Abbiamo fatto già molti live e molti devono essere ancora confermati, pertanto consigliamo di tenere sotto controllo i nostri canali social per tutti gli eventi futuri.

Guardando alla carriera dei Vibratacore, dai primi lavori come “Empty Box” fino a “Nova”, quali cambiamenti stilistici e sonori ritenete più significativi e come hanno contribuito a definire l’identità attuale della band? E guardando al futuro, quali sono i vostri obiettivi come band, sia musicalmente sia come progetto artistico complessivo?
I Vibratacore più che un gruppo sono un progetto di condivisione musicale nel quale sono sempre confluite le influenze soggettive dei diversi componenti che si sono succeduti nel tempo. Di conseguenza le evoluzioni stilistiche sono dipese anche dai diversi cambi di formazione, senza mai seguire programmaticamente un genere preciso. L’unica costante è invece aver ricercato linee e sonorità sempre più estreme. E con l’ingresso di Sandro questa evoluzione ha raggiunto il nostro livello di composizione più compiuto e definito. Per ciò che concerne gli obbiettivi futuri intanto dobbiamo portare avanti la promozione di “Nova” e soprattutto la raccolta fondi a cui è legato. Più in avanti vorremmo iniziare la composizione di nuovi brani in vista del 25ennale ormai prossimo (2026) anche utilizzando tecnologie e software che consentano a Sandro di creare linee di batteria per le nuove produzioni. Abbiamo sempre immaginato i Vibratacore come uno spazio terapeutico per ognuno di noi e gli avvenimenti e le esperienze che ci hanno coinvolti hanno sicuramente consolidato questa idea.

“Nova”, the album released by Vibratacore in 2025, brings together songs written and rearranged over time, tracing the band’s sonic evolution between Swedish death metal, blackened hardcore, and crust. Beyond its musical value, “Nova” is tied to a crowdfunding campaign in support of Sandro “Nova” Novelli, the band’s drummer, who was seriously injured in an accident in 2023. A project rooted in human solidarity and DIY ethics. We talked about it with Fango.

Hi Fango, thanks for taking the time to talk with us. “Nova” is your latest album, released in 2025, and it represents a very special moment in Vibratacore’s history. Can you tell us how the record came together and how you approached the creative process during such a particular phase of your career?
Hi Giuseppe, greetings to all the readers of Il Raglio del Mulo and thanks to you for inviting us. Yes, “Nova” is our latest album and, for many reasons, it’s a very meaningful release for us. First of all, because it’s dedicated to our drummer, Sandro “Nova” Novelli, who unfortunately lost the ability to play due to an accident that happened in the summer of 2023. Because of that accident, we had to stop working on new material, and as a result Nova ended up being a sort of collection of unreleased tracks, both newly written and rearranged songs that we worked on with Sandro when he joined the band. So it goes without saying that the album works as a “story” of our stylistic evolution over the years.

Musically, “Nova” moves between Swedish death metal, blackened hardcore, and crust. How did you work on integrating these different influences while keeping your sonic identity and stylistic evolution intact?
In reality, the influences you can hear on “Nova” are part of a constant compositional mutation that, from 2001 (the year the band was founded) up to today, has pushed Vibratacore toward progressively more direct and extreme solutions. This direction, together with our experiences and each member’s musical background, naturally led us toward sounds connected to Swedish death metal and blackened crust. That said, in our opinion, you can also hear other musical influences on the album, such as post-core elements, which are more closely linked to our early releases.

Is there a concept behind “Nova”? And specifically, how does it connect with the vocal sampler used in “No God”? Can you explain the idea behind that track and the album as a whole?
There isn’t really a proper concept behind “Nova”, mainly because some of the songs were written even before those included in “Resurgita” (our last EP, released in 2019, which marked Sandro’s entry into the band) and were later rearranged together with him. What does matter, though, is the cover artwork depicting the explosion of a star, a supernova, which clearly references our decision to dedicate the album to Sandro. As for “No God”, the sample comes from the film “Alabama Monroe”. Since the anti-religious monologue fit perfectly with the song’s lyrics, we decided to use it. It’s a reflection on how, in the name of a supposed God, entire populations throughout history have committed brutal atrocities against their own kind and have effectively hindered humanity’s process of awareness and self-realization.

The album was released as a co-production with several labels and collectives (Mondo Chaos, Malammòre DIY, Rabid Dog Records, Rumori in Cantina, THC DIY Prod., and Wrong Disk Records). How did this collaboration come about, and how important was it for the project?
Unlike our previous releases, for this album we decided to involve multiple labels, above all to share and spread as widely as possible the meaning and motivation behind the record. We were also inspired by the idea of releasing something that was truly the result of grassroots sharing. We really want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the solidarity and support they’ve shown us.

“Nova” is tied to a crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting Sandro with his medical and daily logistical expenses. What emotions did you feel seeing the support from fans and the DIY scene, and how this initiative was received?
Yes, the main purpose behind releasing the album is precisely to promote the crowdfunding campaign connected to it. Sandro had to completely change his life overnight, and it’s easy to imagine how difficult it can be to live with tetraplegia. On top of that, the expenses he now has to face are really significant. Since we made the situation public, we’ve been overwhelmed by an incredible amount of closeness and solidarity, for which we’re deeply grateful. There’s been massive participation in the crowdfunding, and many collectives and promoters have organized benefit shows and fundraisers. We didn’t expect such widespread involvement and support. Unfortunately, we’re still far from reaching the necessary goal, but even emotionally, what’s already happened means a lot to us.

Can you explain in more detail how the fundraising campaign works and how those interested can take part and contribute?
Yes, exactly. There is a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the daily expenses Sandro has to face. We launched this fundraiser alongside the album release, especially with all those people in mind who aren’t able to follow us live. Many of the tracks on “Nova” were arranged together with Sandro before his accident, including the two bonus tracks he personally recorded. How much of his musical vision remains in the final album, and what do these tracks mean to you and to the fans?
As mentioned before, some of the songs on “Nova” were actually written with Sandro, while others (already composed when he joined the band) were rearranged together with him. On the album, for obvious reasons, the drums were recorded by a session drummer (Stefano Rutolini – Stormo, Hatred, Baphomet’s Blood, etc.), but the tracklist also includes two versions recorded by Sandro himself in 2023 for a split that was never released. Having these recordings allowed us to create an album that also includes his tangible contribution and truly pays tribute to him. In fact, Sandro’s musical interpretation within “Nova” remained unchanged, even though it was performed by a session drummer. That’s probably because his style has always been very distinctive and recognizable. “Nova” is the final result of a deeply meaningful journey, and the core message behind the album is the confirmation of a lineup that remains united despite recent events. For the fans as well, we believe it was important to experience our collective project firsthand, because “Nova” wouldn’t be what it is without this bond we share.

Do you have any concerts or tours planned to promote “Nova”? If so, which dates and cities are involved?
The “Nova” tour started with the album’s release and will continue through the end of 2026. At the moment, many people, associations, venues, and cultural spaces have offered to support the fundraising efforts, and that means a lot to us. We’ve already played many shows, and many more still need to be confirmed, so we recommend keeping an eye on our social media channels for all upcoming events.

Looking back at Vibratacore’s career, from early releases like “Empty Box” to “Nova”, what stylistic and sonic changes do you consider most significant, and how have they shaped the band’s current identity? And looking ahead, what are your goals as a band, both musically and as an overall artistic project?
Vibratacore is more than just a band—it’s a musical sharing project that has always absorbed the subjective influences of the different members who’ve been part of it over time. As a result, stylistic evolutions have also depended on lineup changes, without ever deliberately sticking to a specific genre. The only constant has been the search for increasingly extreme lines and sounds. With Sandro joining the band, this evolution reached what we consider our most complete and defined compositional level. As for future goals, first and foremost we need to continue promoting “Nova” and, above all, the fundraising campaign linked to it. Later on, we’d like to start writing new material in view of our upcoming 25th anniversary in 2026, also using technologies and software that will allow Sandro to create drum parts for future releases. We’ve always imagined Vibratacore as a therapeutic space for each of us, and the events and experiences we’ve gone through have definitely strengthened that belief.
