A causa dell’emergenza sanitaria mondiale, i Nordjevel hanno deciso di posticipare il loro prossimo album alla fine del 2021 e di registrare alcune tracce extra in esclusiva per il nuovo EP “Fenriir” (Indie Recordings).

Benvenuto Doedsadmiral, quanto tempo avete impiegato per comporre e registrare il vostro ultimo EP “Fenriir”?
Le canzoni “Fenriir” e “Rovdyr” erano tracce che avevamo scritto un anno fa e che erano finite, quindi quando abbiamo deciso di aggiungere “Gnawing The Bones”, che era stata scritta per il nuovo album, non ci è voluto molto tempo. Giusto il tempo necessario per registrare le canzoni in studio.

Avete bisogno di un ambiente o di un’atmosfera particolare per comporre?
Non proprio. Componiamo in ogni ambiente. Se abbiamo un’idea, o ci troviamo in un determinato stato d’animo, ci sentiamo semplicemente ispirati e continuiamo a lavorare sulle idee.

“Fenriir”, “Gnawing The Bones”, “Rovdyr” saranno disponibili esclusivamente su questo nuovo EP?
“Fenriir” e “Rovdyr” sì, saranno disponibili solo su questo EP. “Gnawing The Bones” è stato scritto per il nostro nuovo album che registreremo a settembre. Potrebbe avere una versione po’ differente sull’album.

“Det Ror Og Ror” è stata registrata dal vivo al Brutal Assault nel 2019, perché avete scelto questa versione live?
È stata una nostra scelta personale. Quando abbiamo suonato Brutal Assault, è stato un concerto davvero estremo per noi, e volevamo catturare quell’energia che abbiamo sentito sul palco in quel momento.

Quanto spesso ascolti le tue vecchie canzoni?
Non molto spesso, ma è perché le proviamo e le suoniamo molto, quindi non capita spesso di sedersi da soli ad ascoltare vecchi album. Segnano anche un momento nella band che c’era allora ed è là. Normalmente mi sento più motivato ad andare avanti con cose nuove. Ma, quando a volte ti siedi e le ascolti, ti riportano indietro.

Quando hai scoperto i Possessed e la loro canzone “Fallen Angel”?
Siamo stati tutti fan dei Possessed da un pezzo, e quando siamo andati in tournée con loro nel 2019 e li abbiamo visti dal vivo per 15 giorni, volevamo davvero onorarli con questa cover, come antenati della musica estrema. Non c’è mai stato davvero alcun dubbio su chi coverizzare.

Quando nasce il tuo amore per il metal?
Probabilmente già all’inizio del 1988. Mia madre stava con un chitarrista live di una delle più grandi rock band norvegesi e suonava sempre la chitarra con me mentre cantavo. È nato da tutto da quello: Accept, Kiss, Sepultura, poi su Possessed, Darkthrone e Mayhem nei primi anni dell’adolescenza.

Dopo “Krigsmakt” (2017), “Fenriir” è il vostro secondo EP: preferisci pubblicare full-length o Ep con la tua band?
Personalmente preferisco gli album. Gli EP sono sempre troppo corti per me.

Novità sul prossimo full lenght?
Entreremo negli Fredman Studio a settembre per registrare il nostro nuovo full-lenght. Verrà probabilmente rilasciato intorno alla primavera del 2022.

Due to the ongoing world situation, Nordjevel decided to delay their upcoming album until late 2021 and to record a few extra tracks in exclusive only for the new EP “Fenriir” (Indie Recordings).

Welcome Doedsadmiral, how long did it take for you to compose and record the latest EP “Fenriir”?
The songs “Fenriir” and “Rovdyr” were tracks that we had written one year earlier, and where finished, so when we decided to add “Gnawing The Bones”, which was finished written for the new album, it didn`t take that much time. It was just to record the songs in the studio.

Do you need a particular setting or mood in order  to compose?
Not really. We compose in every setting. If we get and idea, or we are in a certain mood, we just feel inspired and keep on working on the ideas.

“Fenriir”, “Gnawing The Bones”, “Rovdyr will be exclusively available for this new EP?
“Fenriir” and “Rovdyr” yes will only be available on this EP. “Gnawing The Bones” is written for our new album we will record in September. It might be a bit altered on the album.

“Det Ror Og Ror” was recorded live at Brutal Assault in 2019, why did you choose this live version?
It was a personal choice from us. When we played Brutal Assault, it was a really extreme concert for us, and we wanted to capture that energy we felt on stage in that moment.

How often do you listen your old songs?
Not that often, but that is because we rehearse and play them a lot, so it`s not often you sit down alone, to listen to old albums. They also mark a time in the band that was then and there. Normally I feel more motivation moving on with new stuff. But, when you on occasions sit down and listen to them, it takes you back.

When did you discover Possessed and their song “Fallen Angel”?
We have all been fans of Possessed most of our lives, and when we went on tour with them in 2019, and saw them live for 15 days, we really wanted to honor them with this cover, as forefathers of extreme music. There was really never any doubt about who to cover.

When is born your love for metal?
Early 1988 probably already. My mother was together with a live guitarist of one of Norway`s biggest rock bands, and he always played the guitar with me while I was singing along. It grew from that to Accept,Kiss,Sepultura,then onto Possessed,Darkthrone and Mayhem in the early teens.

After “Krigsmakt” (2017), “Fenriir” is your second EP: do you prefer to release full-length or Ep for your band?
Personally I prefer albums. EP`s always feel to short for me.

What’s about your next full-length?
We will enter Studio Fredman in September to record our new full length. Will probably be released around spring 2022
