Mentre i The Dead Daisies si preparano per il loro ritorno in Italia, abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di chiacchierare con il frontman John Corabi sui concerti in programma l’8 marzo al Phenomenon di Fontaneto D’Agogna e il 9 marzo all’Hall di Padova. Con una carriera che abbraccia decenni e performance in tutto il mondo, Corabi ha condiviso il suo entusiasmo per il poter suonare in Italia, e ci ha raccontato cosa possono aspettarsi i fan da questi concerti e le sue opinioni sulla scena rock attuale. Benvenuto su Il Raglio del Mulo, John! Tra poche settimane, vi esibirete qui in Italia. Avete due concerti in programma: uno l’8 marzo 2025 al Phenomenon di Fontaneto D’Agogna e l’altro il 9 marzo 2025 all’Hall di Padova. Vi piace esibirvi in Italia?
Adoro suonare in Italia!!! I fan sono incredibilmente appassionati della musica e per parlare del cibo, del vino e del clima! È un paese bellissimo!!! Ora, come italiano, devo solo imparare la mia “lingua madre”.
Cosa possono aspettarsi i fan italiani da questi concerti? Ci saranno sorprese o brani nuovi in programma per il pubblico italiano?
Potremmo suonare alcune nuove canzoni dall’album “Light Em’ Up”, così come un paio di brani blues dal nostro prossimo album blues “Lookin’ For Trouble”, ma non posso dirtelo con certezza perché la setlist è “top secret” e se te lo dico… beh, non sarebbe più segreto…
Negli anni, avete suonato dal vivo in tutto il mondo, partecipato a grandi eventi e condiviso il palco con alcuni dei nomi più prestigiosi del rock. Ma qual è stata l’esperienza più emozionante per voi? Forse nel 2015, quando siete diventati la prima band rock americana a suonare a Cuba dopo il disgelo nelle relazioni diplomatiche? Ti senti di aver scritto un capitolo importante nella storia del rock quel giorno?
Sì… I concerti a Cuba sono stati incredibili!!! I fan erano follemente felici che una band rock americana venisse a suonare per loro. Ci siamo divertiti molto a visitare e a incontrare il popolo cubano. Il cibo era fantastico e c’era musica e vecchie auto classiche ovunque!!! Consiglio vivamente di visitare quel posto!!!
Restando in tema di performance dal vivo, avete anche partecipato alla Kiss Kruise, un evento esclusivo su una nave da crociera con i fan. Com’è stato esibirsi in un contesto così unico?
Sì, essere invitato a suonare nelle crociere dei Kiss è stata un’esperienza straordinaria. Non solo perché il pubblico era fantastico, ma ho anche portato mia moglie per fare un po’ di vacanza. Ci siamo divertiti molto con i fan, godendoci il sole e l’acqua, e passando del tempo con Eric, Tommy, Gene e Paul…
La vostra band ha visto frequenti cambiamenti di membri nel tempo. Come gestite questi avvicendamenti e come riuscite a mantenere la coesione e l’essenza del vostro suono intatta sul palco?
Innanzitutto, la maggior parte delle persone nella lista sono stati solo “amici” che hanno fatto da sostituti per un membro che non poteva partecipare a qualche concerto… Come tutti sanno, David è anche un uomo d’affari e a volte i suoi impegni si sovrappongono ai tour, quindi la maggior parte dei nomi nella nostra lista sono ragazzi che hanno semplicemente aiutato in qualche concerto qui e lì…
Il vostro nuovo singolo “Love That’ll Never Be” è stato pubblicato il 14 febbraio 2025, giorno di San Valentino. Qual è il messaggio principale della canzone e come si collega al tema dell’amore? Inoltre, come pensi che il pubblico italiano reagirà a questa nuova uscita durante le prossime date del tour?
Come tutti sappiamo, l’amore non è sempre facile. E quando le cose si fanno difficili, la maggior parte delle persone (non tutte) comincia a guardare “altrove”. Ho avuto relazioni in cui le cose si sono fatte difficili, e la ragazza con cui uscivo non pensava che funzionasse, quindi voleva vedere quali “opzioni” c’erano in giro. Ma alla fine le persone vanno avanti. Quindi, questa è una canzone su una ragazza che è innamorata di una persona che ha avuto, ma non può più avere. È triste, ma a volte succede così… That’s amore.
Quali canzoni di “Light ‘Em Up” hanno l’energia migliore nelle performance dal vivo e suscitano più entusiasmo tra i fan?
In realtà, tutte le canzoni che abbiamo suonato finora sono state accolte molto bene. Il pubblico è stato molto entusiasta e cantava ogni parola insieme a noi!!!
Parlando dell’Italia e del pubblico italiano, si è parlato molto dei Måneskin qui. Sono una band che sta ottenendo un enorme successo internazionale, ma non tutti nel loro paese natale li apprezzano. Vi piacciono e pensate che il loro stile e il loro impatto possano aiutare a dare più visibilità al rock, soprattutto tra le nuove generazioni, in tutto il mondo?
Purtroppo, la radio qui in America non sono molto reattive nei confronti delle nuove band, o del rock classico. Quindi non conosco quella band. Ma auguro loro tutta la fortuna del mondo e di continuare a sventolare la bandiera del rock and roll, e non appena finisco di scrivere questa intervista, andrò a sentirli!!!

Welcome to Il Raglio del Mulo! In a few weeks, you’ll be performing here in Italy. You’ve got two shows lined up: one on March 8, 2025, at Phenomenon in Fontaneto D’Agogna and another on March 9, 2025, at Hall in Padova. Do you guys enjoy performing in Italy?
I love playing in Italy!!! The fans are incredibly passionate about the music, and it doesn’t hurt that I love the food, wine, and weather! It’s a beautiful country!!! Now as an Italian, I just need to learn my “mother toungue”.
What can the Italian fans expect from these concerts? Are there any surprises or new tracks planned for the Italian audience?
We may do a few new songs from the “Light Em’Up” record, as well as a couple of blues songs from our upcoming Blues record “Lookin’ For Trouble” but, I can’t tell you for certain cause the setlist is “top secret” and if I tell you…well, then it wouldn’t be secret anymore…
Over the years, you’ve played live all over the world, participated in huge events, and shared the stage with some of rock’s most prestigious names. But what’s been the most exciting experience for you? Maybe in 2015, when you became the first American rock band to play in Cuba after the thaw in diplomatic relations? Do you feel like you made an important chapter in rock history that day?
Yes…The Cuban shows were amazing!!! The fans were insanely happy a rock band from America came to play for them. We had a great time sight-seeing, and meeting the Cuban people. The food was amazing, and there was music and old classic cars everywhere!!! I highly recommend a visit there!!!
Staying on the live performance topic, you also took part in the Kiss Kruise, an exclusive event on a cruise ship with the fans. What was it like performing in such a unique setting?
Yes, being invited to play the Kiss cruises was an amazing experience. Not just because the crowd was great, but I got to bring my wife for a bit of a vacation as well. We had a great time hanging with the fans, enjoying the sun and water, and hanging with Eric, Tommy, Gene and Paul…
Your band has seen frequent member changes over time. How do you handle these changes, and how do you manage to keep the cohesion and essence of your sound intact on stage?
Firstly a majority of the people on the list have been just “friends” that have filled in for a member that wasn’t able to do a few shows…As everybody knows David is also a business guy and sometimes his schedules conflict with touring, so most of the names on our list are guys that just helped out for a few shows here and there…
Your new single “Love That’ll Never Be” was released on February 14, 2025, Valentine’s Day. What’s the main message of the song, and how does it connect to the theme of love? Also, how do you think the Italian audience will react to this new release during the upcoming tour date’s?
As we all know, love isn’t always easy. And when things get difficult most people (not all) begin looking “elsewhere.” I’ve been in relationships where things got hard, and the girl I was dating didn’t think things were working, so they wanted to see what other “options” were out there. But eventually people move on. So, this is a song about a girl that is in love with a person she had, but can’t have anymore. It’s sad, but sometimes happens that way…That’s amore’.
Which songs from “Light ‘Em Up” have the best live performance energy and get the most excitement from the fans?
Actually, all of the songs we’ve played thus far have been received really well. The crowds have been very enthusiastic and singing every word with us!!!
Speaking of Italy and the Italian audience, there been a lot of talk about Måneskin here. They’re a band that’s achieving massive international success, but not everyone in their home country appreciates them. Do you guys like them, and do you think their style and impact can help bring more visibility to rock, especially among the younger generation, worldwide?
Unfortunately, radio here in America is not very responsive to new bands, or classic rock for that matter. So, I’m not familiar with that band. But I wish them all the luck in the World, and keep waving the rock and roll flag, and as soon as I’m done typing this interview, I’m going to check them out!!!
