I Terra Atlantica tornano con il loro quarto album in studio, “Oceans”, pubblicato via Scarlet Records. Con Tristan, Dawid, Nico e Julian, la band tedesca mescola power metal classico con orchestrazioni epiche e spirito avventuroso, portando gli ascoltatori in un vero e proprio viaggio musicale attraverso i sette mari.

Benvenuti Tristan e Dawid! Congratulazioni per l’uscita di “Oceans”! In che modo questo quarto album si ricollega al vostro lavoro precedente e qual è stata l’ispirazione principale?
Grazie! Come al solito, questo album continua la storia iniziata con i nostri precedenti dischi, incentrata sul mondo immaginario di Atlantica. Musicalmente, questa volta abbiamo adottato un approccio leggermente diverso: mentre “Beyond the Borders” era molto complesso e aveva il carattere di un musical, le canzoni di “Oceans” sono più dirette e puntano a una maggiore interazione con il pubblico durante i live.

“Oceans” è descritto come un viaggio musicale attraverso i sette mari, pieno di segreti, leggende antiche e nuovi orizzonti. Come avete affrontato la sfida di tradurre questi temi epici nella musica e nei testi?
Abbiamo immaginato l’album come un viaggio, quindi abbiamo cercato di inserire elementi musicali specifici nelle canzoni che riflettessero i vari luoghi che visitiamo. Per esempio, sulla nave usiamo molta fisarmonica, che richiama la navigazione; sulle coste dei Caraibi ci sono percussioni samba e ritmi latino-americani; più avanti, quando arriviamo in Egitto, utilizziamo scale mixolidie, e così via.

I testi esplorano scoperta, tradimento, speranza e lo spirito umano indomabile. Quale storia o tema dell’album sentite più personale o significativo per la band?
La maggior parte delle canzoni è in realtà molto personale. Anche se sembrano parlare di sommergibili, pirati e civiltà perdute mitiche, al loro nocciolo parlano di superare le avversità, restare fedeli a se stessi e andare avanti nonostante tradimenti o ostacoli. L’idea di avventurarsi nell’ignoto e riuscire comunque a trovare la luce risuona profondamente con noi, sia come musicisti che come persone.

L’album combina power metal classico con orchestrazioni epiche, suoni cinematografici e vibrazioni avventurose. Come bilanciate gli elementi tradizionali del metal con questo approccio cinematografico e atmosferico?
Il nostro punto di partenza è sempre il power metal classico: riff potenti, assoli melodici e grandi cori. Poi costruiamo il mondo cinematografico intorno con strati orchestrali, cori, effetti sonori ed elementi folk-marittimi per evocare l’esplorazione. In studio ci assicuriamo che nessuna parte sovrasti l’altra. Questo è ciò che ci distingue dalle band di metal sinfonico “puro”: loro hanno un’orchestra con le chitarre, noi abbiamo power metal con un’orchestra.

“Through The Water And The Waves” vede la collaborazione di Piet Sielck degli Iron Savior. Come è nata questa collaborazione e com’è stato lavorare con lui?
Ammiriamo Piet da molto tempo e le nostre strade si sono incrociate nella scena power metal tedesca. Quando Tristan stava scrivendo “Through The Water And The Waves”, voleva qualcuno con una voce più graffiante rispetto ai tipici cantanti power metal acuti, e Piet ci è subito venuto in mente. La sua voce aveva esattamente quel tono eroico e maturo che serviva al brano. Ha portato non solo il suo sound caratteristico, ma anche un’esperienza preziosa che ha elevato il pezzo.

Mixato e masterizzato da Eike Freese agli Chameleon Studios, quanto è stata importante la produzione per catturare energia, respiro cinematografico e atmosfera avventurosa dell’album?
È stata assolutamente fondamentale. Le canzoni di “Oceans” hanno molti strati: chitarre potenti, cori, orchestrazioni, paesaggi sonori. Senza la produzione giusta, sarebbe potuto risultare confuso. Eike ha capito subito la nostra visione e ha dato al disco un suono potente ma arioso. Ha catturato la forza del metal classico permettendo alle parti cinematografiche di respirare, facendo sì che l’album si sentisse come una vera avventura dall’inizio alla fine.

Con riff potenti, ritmi esotici e cori che volano alti, “Oceans” sembra fatto apposta per il live. Come pensate di portare questo viaggio epico sul palco e quali canzoni siete più impazienti di suonare dal vivo?
Stiamo già lavorando sugli arrangiamenti dal vivo che mettano in evidenza i cambi dinamici dell’album. Ci saranno grandi cori cantabili, momenti di call-and-response e intro atmosferiche che sfociano in esplosioni di energia. “Land of Submarines” è sicuramente un pezzo che il pubblico apprezzerà e non può mancare, e anche “Hoist the Sail” è in cima alla lista. Vogliamo che il live dia la sensazione di salpare insieme al pubblico.

I Terra Atlantica stanno attirando sempre più attenzione nella scena power metal europea. Come avete visto evolvere la vostra identità di band con questo nuovo album?
Con “Oceans” abbiamo fatto un passo avanti nella creazione di un mondo coerente. Non sono solo canzoni, ma un’avventura completa con la sua lore. Questo ci aiuta a distinguerci come più di una semplice band power metal, siamo narratori con uno spirito esplorativo e marittimo. Manteniamo le nostre radici, ma abbracciamo orchestrazioni più grandi, concetti più profondi e una presentazione più cinematografica, che definisce la nostra identità.

Guardando al futuro, quali sono le vostre aspettative per “Oceans” in termini di ricezione dei fan, tour e direzioni musicali future?
Speriamo che “Oceans” raggiunga sia i fan di lunga data sia nuovi ascoltatori che amano il metal epico e avventuroso. Per farlo, siamo ansiosi di portare questi brani nel Tour Of The Strong insieme ai nostri amici Victorius e Aeon Gods in Germania nel 2026. Vogliamo dare vita sul palco al mondo marittimo dell’album. Musicalmente, questo disco ci apre le porte per spingere ancora oltre la narrazione e le orchestrazioni in futuro. Rimarremo sempre ancorati al power metal, ma non abbiamo paura di navigare in nuove acque.

Terra Atlantica returns with their fourth studio album, “Oceans”, released via Scarlet Records. Featuring Tristan, Dawid, Nico and Julian, the German band blends classical power metal with epic orchestrations and adventurous vibes, taking listeners on a musical voyage across the seven seas.

Welcome Tristan and Dawid! Congratulations on the release of “Oceans”! How does this fourth album build upon your previous work, and what was the main inspiration behind it?
Thanks! As usual, this album continues the story established in our previous albums, centered on the fictional world of Atlantica. Musically, we took a slightly different approach this time—while “Beyond the Borders” was very complex and had the character of a stage musical, the songs on “Oceans” are more straightforward and aim for better interaction with the audience during live performances.

“Oceans” is described as a musical voyage across the seven seas, full of secrets, ancient legends, and new horizons. How did you approach translating these epic themes into your music and lyrics?
We envisioned the album as a journey, so we tried to include specific musical elements in the songs that reflect the various settings we visit. For example, on the ship, we use a lot of accordion, which evokes sailing; at the Caribbean shores, there are samba drums and Latin American rhythms; later, when we reach Egypt, we use mixolydian scales, and so on.

The lyrics explore discovery, betrayal, hope, and the unbreakable human spirit. Which story or theme on the album do you feel is the most personal or meaningful to the band?
Most of the songs are actually very personal. Even though they appear to be about submarines, pirates, and mythical lost civilizations, at their core they’re about overcoming adversity, staying true to yourself, and pushing forward despite betrayal or setbacks. That idea of venturing into the unknown and still finding light resonates deeply with us as musicians and as people.

The album combines classical power metal with epic orchestrations, cinematic sounds, and adventurous vibes. How do you balance traditional metal elements with this cinematic and atmospheric approach?
Our starting point is always classic power metal: strong riffs, melodic leads, and big choruses. Then we build the cinematic world around it with orchestral layers, choirs, sound effects, and folk-maritime elements to evoke exploration. In the studio, we make sure neither side overwhelms the other. That’s the difference between our music and ‘pure’ symphonic metal bands—they have an orchestra with guitars, while we have power metal with an orchestra.

“Through The Water And The Waves” features Piet Sielck of Iron Savior. How did this collaboration come about, and what was it like working with him?
We’ve admired Piet for a long time, and our paths crossed through the German power metal scene. When Tristan was writing “Through The Water And The Waves”, he wanted someone with a harsher voice than the usual high-pitched power metal singers, so Piet immediately came to mind. His voice had exactly the heroic and seasoned quality the song needed. He brought not only his signature sound but also invaluable experience that elevated the track.

Mixed and mastered by Eike Freese at Chameleon Studios, how important was the production in capturing the energy, cinematic scope, and adventurous feel of the album?
It was absolutely crucial. The songs on “Oceans” have many layers: heavy guitars, choirs, orchestration, soundscapes. Without the right production, it could have sounded muddy. Eike understood our vision instantly and gave the record a powerful yet spacious sound. He captured the punch of classic metal while letting the cinematic parts breathe, making the album feel like a true adventure from start to finish.

With powerful riffs, exotic rhythms, and soaring choruses, “Oceans” seems designed for live performances. How do you plan to bring this epic journey to the stage, and which songs are you most excited to perform live?
We’re already working on stage arrangements that highlight the album’s dynamic shifts. There will be big sing-along choruses, call-and-response parts, and atmospheric intros leading into bursts of energy. “Land of Submarines” is a clear crowd-pleaser we can’t leave out, and “Hoist the Sail” is also high on our list. We want the live show to feel like setting sail together with the audience.

Terra Atlantica has been gaining attention in the European power metal scene. How do you see your identity as a band evolving with this new album?
With “Oceans”, we’ve taken a step further in creating a cohesive world. It’s not just songs but a whole adventure with its own lore. That helps define us as more than just another power metal band—we’re storytellers with a seafaring, exploratory spirit. We still cherish our roots, but we’re embracing bigger orchestrations, deeper concepts, and a more cinematic presentation, which sets our identity apart.

Looking ahead, what are your hopes for “Oceans” in terms of fan reception, touring, and future musical directions?
We hope “Oceans” will reach both longtime listeners and new fans who love epic, adventurous metal. To make that happen, we’re eager to take these songs on the “Tour Of The Strong” with our friends Victorius and Aeon Gods across Germany in 2026. We want to bring the album’s maritime world to life on stage. Musically, this record opens doors for us to push our storytelling and orchestration even further in the future. We’ll always stay anchored in power metal, but we’re unafraid to sail into new waters.
