Dal 2007, i tedeschi The Prophecy 23 portano avanti il loro stile unico, il cosiddetto “fresh metal” — un mix selvaggio di thrash, death e punk. Il 15 agosto 2025 la band è tornata con il suo album più pesante e veloce di sempre, “Mosh O’Clock”, pubblicato da Massacre Records. A rispondere alle nostre domande ci ha pensato Hannes Klopprogge.

Benvenuto! Hannes, “Mosh O’Clock” è stato descritto come l’album più pesante e veloce dei The Prophecy 23, pieno di thrash, death, punk, humor e attitudine. Cosa vi ha ispirato per questo disco e cosa volevate ottenere?
Grazie! Con “Mosh O’Clock” volevamo davvero spingere tutto oltre e fare un disco più duro, più veloce e più pesante. Dopo il successo del nostro ultimo album “Fresh Metal” – che è persino entrato nella classifica ufficiale tedesca – non avevamo voglia di ammorbidire o levigare il nostro sound. Anzi, è stato uno stimolo per dare tutto, mettere più aggressività, più energia e portare il livello di “Fresh Metal” ancora più in alto. È più pesante, ma mantiene il nostro mix di thrash, death, punk, humor e attitudine.

Rispetto a “Fresh Metal”, come è cambiato il songwriting in questo disco? Avete provato nuovi approcci o sfide in studio?
In questo disco abbiamo lavorato insieme come band più che mai, e ognuno ha portato il suo contributo nel songwriting. Questo rende “Mosh O’Clock” probabilmente il nostro album più autentico fino ad oggi. Alcune canzoni sono nate in soli 10 minuti in sala prove – tipo “Work Eat Sleep Repeat” – mentre altre le abbiamo rifinite per settimane, testandole live e cambiandole di nuovo. È stato un mix tra spontaneità pura e dettagli curatissimi, che ha reso tutto il processo super eccitante.

L’album ha 13 tracce scelte dai fan tra più di 20 demo, e, alcuni di loro, hanno anche registrato cori per la title track. Coinvolgere i fan ha cambiato il risultato finale?
Dopo mesi a lavorare sulle stesse canzoni, alla fine ti ci abitui e non le vedi più chiaramente. Invece di lasciare che un manager o un produttore decidesse cosa doveva entrare nell’album, abbiamo pensato: perché non chiedere a chi conta di più: i fan? Abbiamo organizzato una sessione di ascolto delle demo dove potevano votare i loro brani preferiti, e il feedback è stato pazzesco. Così sono state scelte le 13 tracce finali. E non finisce qui: i fan ci hanno anche aiutato a decidere cosa mettere nel box limitato – tipo i calzini “Fresh Metal” sono stata idea loro, e ora li adoriamo!

Dal punto di vista lirico e musicale, “Mosh O’Clock” parla di vivere senza limiti, combattere le ingiustizie e celebrare la comunità, mantenendo un sound grezzo ma potente. Come avete bilanciato aggressività, chiarezza ed energia?
Tutto nasce dall’istinto e dalle situazioni di vita che viviamo. Non c’era un piano preciso – le canzoni sono il risultato di quello che sentiamo. Così riusciamo a bilanciare aggressività, chiarezza ed energia: lasciamo crescere la musica in modo naturale, facendo comunque in modo che ogni pezzo colpisca duro e suoni potente.

Guardando agli album precedenti come “Fresh Metal” e “Green Machine Laser Beam”, come è cambiato il vostro sound e la vostra identità come band, e come mantenete quel mix di intensità, humor e spirito da festa che vi contraddistingue?
A guardare indietro, il nostro sound è diventato più intenso e preciso col tempo. Con ogni album – da “Green Machine Laser Beam” a “Fresh Metal” e ora “Mosh O’Clock” – abbiamo spinto velocità, pesantezza e songwriting sempre più in là, mantenendo quell’attitudine unica del “fresh metal”. Il mix di intensità, humor e spirito da festa viene naturale perché è quello che siamo: non ci prendiamo mai troppo sul serio, ci piace divertirci sul palco e vogliamo sempre fare musica che faccia muovere, ridere e sentire l’energia insieme a noi.

La grafica e le immagini di “Mosh O’Clock” sono incredibili. Come avete lavorato sul lato visivo e che messaggio volevate trasmettere?
Abbiamo sempre visto il lato visivo come un’estensione della musica. Per “Mosh O’Clock” abbiamo lavorato con Marvin Clifford, un noto artista di fumetti qui in Germania, che ha capito subito la nostra visione. La grafica cattura il caos, l’energia e l’humor del “fresh metal” – qualcosa di selvaggio e divertente, ma comunque intenso. Il risultato riflette perfettamente la musica: rumoroso, colorato, un po’ esagerato e 100% noi.

“Forever 23” vanta diversi ospiti, compresi ex membri. Come sono nate queste collaborazioni e cosa hanno portato all’album?
Quest’anno festeggiamo il 23° anniversario della band – mica il 25°, ovvio dal nome della band! Tutti i nostri ex membri fanno ancora parte della famiglia; non c’è mai stata cattiveria, e ci vediamo regolarmente. Quindi era chiaro fin dall’inizio che dovevano esserci in questa canzone anniversario. Tornare in studio con loro è stato super divertente, e la loro energia ha dato qualcosa di speciale a “Forever 23”.

Con concerti previsti in tutta Europa nel 2025 e 2026, cosa possono aspettarsi i fan dai The Prophecy 23 sul palco? Ci saranno sorprese?
I fan possono aspettarsi un’esperienza “fresh metal” ad altissima energia! Abbiamo affinato il nostro modo di suonare e, con il monitoraggio in-ear e il nostro batterista che usa il click, il live suona più preciso che mai. Aspettatevi moshing, cantare insieme, tanto caos e magari qualche sorpresa – ci piace inserire momenti inaspettati e divertirci sul palco. Festival grandi o club piccoli, diamo sempre il 100%.

Tour e registrazioni regalano sempre momenti memorabili. Ci racconti qualche aneddoto divertente o insolito dal making of di “Mosh O’Clock” o dalla vita on the road?
Oh, ce ne sono a bizzeffe! Uno dei più divertenti è stato il nostro viaggio verso il Summer Breeze in scooter. Sfrecciavamo per la Germania solo per arrivare al festival, e in qualche modo siamo finiti pure sul main stage. Caos totale, risate a non finire e completamente improvvisato – riassume perfettamente lo spirito del “fresh metal”. Momenti così rendono il tour e le registrazioni indimenticabili.

Since 2007, Germany’s The Prophecy 23 have been delivering their unique “fresh metal style” — a wild mix of thrash, death, and punk. On 15 August 2025, the band returned with their heaviest and fastest album yet, “Mosh O’Clock”, released via Massacre Records. Answering our questions is the band’s Hannes Klopprogge.

Welcome! Hannes, “Mosh O’Clock” has been described as The Prophecy 23’s heaviest and fastest album yet, full of thrash, death, punk, humor, and attitude. Can you tell us what inspired the album and what you wanted to achieve with it?
Thank you! With “Mosh O’Clock” we really wanted to push things further and make a harder, faster, and heavier record. After the success of our last album “Fresh Metal” – which even entered the official German album charts – we didn’t want to get softer or more polished. Quite the opposite: it motivated us to go all in, add more aggression, more energy, and really show the next level of “Fresh Metal.” It’s heavier, but still with our mix of thrash, death, punk, humor, and attitude.

Compared to “Fresh Metal,” how did the songwriting evolve on this record? Were there new approaches or challenges you embraced in the studio?
On this record we worked together as a band more than ever before, and everyone brought in their own input during the songwriting. That makes “Mosh O’Clock” probably our most authentic album so far. Some songs came together in just 10 minutes in the rehearsal room – for example “Work Eat Sleep Repeat” – while others we refined for weeks, even testing them live and then changing them again. It was a mix of raw spontaneity and detailed fine-tuning, which kept the whole process really exciting.

The album features 13 tracks selected by fans from over 20 demos, and they even recorded choir parts for the title track. How did involving the fans influence the final result?
At some point you get kind of blind to your own songs after working on them for months. Instead of letting just a label manager or producer decide what should go on the album, we thought: why not ask the people who matter most – our fans. We organized a demo listening session where they could vote for their favorites, and the feedback was amazing. That’s how the final 13 tracks were chosen. On top of that, fans even helped us decide what to include in the limited box set – for example, the “Fresh Metal” socks were their idea, and now we love them!

Lyrically and musically, “Mosh O’Clock” touches on themes like living without limits, standing against injustice, and celebrating community, while the production keeps a raw edge yet sounds massive. How did you approach balancing aggression, clarity, and the album’s energy?
Everything comes straight from the gut and from different life situations. There wasn’t a strict plan – the songs are really the result of our experiences. That’s how we balance aggression, clarity, and energy: by letting the music grow naturally from what we feel, while still making sure every track hits hard and sounds powerful.

Looking back at past albums like “Fresh Metal” and “Green Machine Laser Beam,” how would you say your sound and identity as a band have evolved over the years, and how do you maintain the mix of intensity, humor, and party spirit that defines The Prophecy 23?
Looking back, our sound has definitely grown more intense and precise over the years. With each album – from “Green Machine Laser Beam” to “Fresh Metal” and now “Mosh O’Clock” – we’ve pushed our speed, heaviness, and songwriting further, while keeping that unmistakable “Fresh Metal” attitude. The mix of intensity, humor, and party spirit comes naturally because it’s who we are: we never take ourselves too seriously, we love having fun on stage, and we always want to create music that makes people move, laugh, and feel the energy with us.

The artwork and visuals of “Mosh O’Clock” are striking. How do you approach the visual side of the album, and what message did you want to convey with it?
We’ve always seen the visual side as an extension of the music. For “Mosh O’Clock,” we worked with Marvin Clifford, a famous comic artist here in Germany, who really understood our vision. The artwork captures the chaos, energy, and humor of “Fresh Metal” – something wild and fun, but still intense. The result perfectly reflects the music: loud, colorful, a bit over-the-top, and 100% us.

“Forever 23” features several guest musicians, including former members. How did these collaborations come together, and what did they bring to the album?
This year we’re celebrating our 23rd band anniversary – not the 25th, of course, that’s obvious with our band name! All our former members are still part of the family; there’s never been any bad blood, and we see each other regularly. So it was clear from the start that they had to be part of this anniversary song. It was a huge amount of fun being back in the studio with them, and their energy really added something special to “Forever 23.”

With shows scheduled across Europe in 2025 and 2026, what can fans expect from The Prophecy 23 on stage? Any special moments or surprises in store?
Fans can expect a high-energy, full-on “Fresh Metal” experience! We’ve tightened up our playing and with in-ear monitoring and our drummer using a click, the live sound is more precise than ever. Expect moshing, singing along, a lot of chaos, and maybe some surprises – we love to throw in unexpected moments and just have fun on stage. Whether it’s big festivals or smaller clubs, we give 100% every night.

Touring and recording often bring memorable moments. Are there any funny or unusual stories from the making of “Mosh O’Clock” or life on the road that you’d like to share?
Oh, there are plenty! One of the funniest was our Summer Breeze road trip on mopeds. We were zipping across Germany just to make it to the festival, and somehow we even ended up on the main stage. Total chaos, a lot of laughs, and completely unplanned – it perfectly sums up the spirit of “Fresh Metal.” Moments like that make touring and recording unforgettable.
