La band hardcore austriaca Perfect Sky è stata fondata nel 2000 ed è rimasta attiva fino al 2003. Dopo 15 anni i ragazzi hanno deciso che era ora di rimettersi in gioco con il loro primo album in assoluto “Rise From The Dead” (WTF Records).

Ciao Oliver, potresti presentare la tua band ai nostri lettori?
Prima di tutto grazie per averci concesso questa intervista! Lo apprezziamo davvero molto! Perfect Sky sono Roman alla batteria, Mark al basso, Chris alla chitarra e Oliver alle voci. Viviamo tutti in diverse città vicino a Vienna. Proponiamo un classico HC old school con influenze metal mescolate con alcune parti vocali rappate.

La band è stata fondata nel 2000 ed è stata attiva fino al 2003. Perché dopo 15 anni avete deciso che era ora di rimettersi in gioco?
Il fuoco e l’amore per la musica, soprattutto per l’hardcore, non si sono mai spenti negli anni. Ma è stata più una coincidenza che ci ha portati riunirci dopo 15 anni, o puoi chiamarlo semplicemente destino. Roman ed io ci siamo rincontrati per caso, dopo tanti anni senza contatti regolari. Già dopo il nostro primo incontro era chiaro che eravamo ancora affamati e che volevamo fare di nuovo musica insieme. E così abbiamo iniziato a suonare insieme solo per divertimento. Ci è stato subito chiaro che avevamo bisogno di altri due musicisti per completare di nuovo la band. Poco dopo abbiamo trovato in Mark e Chris il cast perfetto per riportare in vita Perfect Sky. E a dicembre 2018 Perfect Sky sono tornati e abbiamo iniziato a scrivere nuove canzoni.

Come è cambiata la scena HC durante la vostra assenza?
La scena non è cambiata molto secondo me, tranne che ci sono più grandi band oggi che mai. La scena hardcore è ancora un movimento in cui il rispetto e le amicizie sono molto importanti. Ma una grande differenza rispetto al passato è che oggigiorno è molto più facile diffondere la tua musica in tutto il mondo attraverso i social media e i servizi di streaming. Questo è un grande vantaggio, anche se non sono un fan della musica in streaming, preferisco la vecchia scuola come negli anni ’90.

Il vostro atteggiamento è cambiato in questi anni?
No, il nostro atteggiamento nei confronti dell’hardcore non è cambiato affatto nel corso degli anni. Lo adoriamo ancora e non vediamo l’ora che arrivi ogni singola prova e di lavorare costantemente su nuove canzoni, ma soprattutto amiamo stare sul palco, divertirci e passare del tempo con fan e amici. L’unica cosa che è leggermente cambiata negli ultimi anni sono ovviamente le priorità: siamo diventati più grandi, la maggior parte di noi ora ha famiglia e bambini, quindi non è sempre facile riunire musica e famiglia sotto lo stesso tetto. È la vita…

Come nascono le canzoni incluse in “Rise From the Dead”?
In realtà scriviamo sempre le nostre canzoni insieme, quando uno di noi ha una buona idea o un bel riff, lo mettiamo tutti insieme in una nuova canzone. Ecco perché amiamo così tanto le prove, è sempre emozionante perché non sai mai cosa succederà dopo. A volte cambiamo piccole cose anche dopo settimane finché non siamo soddisfatti al 100% del risultato. Quindi è anche molto diverso il tempo necessario per avere una canzone finita. “Last Call”, ad esempio, l’abbiamo scritto in mezz’ora.

L’album è stato registrato durante il blocco?
Il nostro album è stato registrato nell’agosto 2020 in due giorni, tra il primo e il secondo blocco. Usiamo il tempo durante i lockdown per scrivere nuove canzoni. Non c’è nient’altro che possiamo fare in questi tempi folli.

“Raise From the Dead” è stato rilasciato in un’edizione fisica limitata a sole 300 copie, perché?Questa è stata un’idea di Tim, lui vuole sempre fare qualcosa di speciale per i fan. Lo streaming è una cosa, ma essere in grado di tenere una copia fisica tra le mani è molto più simile all’hardcore come dovrebbe essere. Per Tim è importante che ci sia qualcosa per tutti, alcuni preferiscono ascoltare musica in streaming online e altri preferiscono tenere in mano la copia fisica. Anche le richieste di vinile stanno diventando sempre più forti, quindi è probabile che il nostro album uscirà anche in LP. Per noi e per Tim è importante che ogni fedele fan e sostenitore ottenga ciò che vuole.

Com’è nata la tua collaborazione con WTR Records?
Io e Tim ci siamo incontrati su Facebook, il primo contatto tra di noi è stato intorno all’inizio del 2020. Abbiamo poi parlato di tanto in tanto tramite Messenger e tramite Facebook, Tim ha saputo che c’era del nostro nuovo materiale e che volevamo registrare le canzoni nel studio al più presto per pubblicare il nostro primo album. Gli interessava e voleva ascoltarlo non appena abbiamo registrato la prima canzone. Quindi ha ricevuto il tutto e gli è piaciuto molto, il resto è storia. Ci ha fatto firmare e ora siamo felici e orgogliosi di far parte della famiglia WTF.

Siete pronti a tornare in tour dopo la fine del blocco dei concerti dal vivo?
Sicuramente non vediamo l’ora di tornare sul palco. Abbiamo già ricevuto l’una o l’altra richiesta di spettacoli dal vivo. E’ solo questione di tempo prima di poter tornare sul palco, e ci divertiremo ancora di più dopo questi tempi difficili. I Perfect Sky torneranno presto, si spera! Stiamo già fremendo sui blocchi di partenza!

The Austrian hardcore band Perfect Sky was founded in 2000 and stay active until 2003. After 15 the boys has decide it was time to get back in the game with their first ever album “Rise From The Dead” (WTF Records).

Hi Oliver, could you to introduce your band to our readers?
First of all thank you for your doing this interview with Perfect Sky! We really appreciate that a lot! Perfect Sky is Roman on Drums, Mark on Bass, Chris on Guitar and me doing the Vocals. We all live in different cities near Vienna. We´re doing classic old school HC with some metal influences mixed with some rapped vocal parts.

The band was founded in 2000 and was active until 2003. Why after 15 year did you decide it was time to get back in the game?
The fire and the love for music, especially for hardcore, has never died down over the years. But it was more of a coincidence that we reunited after 15 years, or you can call it just fate. Roman and I met again by chance, after many years without regular contact. Already after our first meeting it was clear to us that we were still hungry to make music together again. And so we just started jamming together with me on guitar just for fun. It quickly became clear to us that we needed two more musicians to complete the band again. Shortly afterwards we found in mark and chris the perfect cast to bring Perfect Sky back to life. And in December 2018 Perfect Sky was back on the map and we started writing new songs.

How is changed the HC scene during your absence?
The scene hasn’t really changed much in my opinion, except that there are more great bands today than ever before. The hardcore scene is still a scene or movement in which respect and friendships are very important. But a big difference to the past is that nowadays it is a lot easier to spread your music to the whole world through social media and streaming services. That’s a big advantage, although i’m not a fan of streaming music, I prefer it old school like in the 90s. Our sound, however, has changed a lot: at the beginning, at the end of the 90s, we had a lot more metallic influences. We listened to bands like Morning Again, Sky Came Falling, Unbroken, Arkangel etc. we loved these bands and wanted to create that kind of sound too. But after a few line up changes we went back to our roots with which our love for hardcore began. We listened to bands like Madball, Agnostic Front, Warzone, Rejuvenate, SOIA, Battery, Youth of Today… now it sounds more like the mentioned bands again, although it also sounds independent because we don’t want to commit to just one style, we still have metallic influences and sometimes rapped vocal parts too, we just do what the fuck we want without having to restrict ourselves. I think that’s a good refreshing sound.

Is your sound and your attitude changed in these years?
No, our attitude towards hardcore has not changed at all over the years. We still love it and look forward to every single rehearsal and to constantly working on new songs. But most of all we love to be on stage and just have a good time and spend time with fans and friends. The only thing that has changed a little in the last few years is of course the priorities. We have gotten older, most of us now have families and kids, so it is not always easy to get music and family under one roof. That´s life…

How are born the songs included in”Rise From the Dead”?
We actually always write our songs together, one of us comes up with a good idea or a cool riff and together we put it all together into a new songs. That´s why we love rehearsals that much, it´s always exciting because you never know what´s happening next. Sometimes we change little things even after weeks until we are 100 percent satisfied with the result. Therefore it is also very different how long we need for a finished song. “Last Call”, for example, we wrote in half an hour.

Was the album recorded during the lockdown?
Our album was recorded in august 2020 within two days, between the first and second lockdown. We use the time during the lockdowns to write new songs. There is nothing else we can do in these crazy times.

“Raise From the Dead” was released in a limited physical edition just 300 copies, why?
That was Tim’s idea, he always wants to do something special for the fans. Streaming music is one thing, but to be able to hold a physical copy in your hands is a lot more like hardcore as it still should be. For Tim it is important that there is something for everyone, some prefer to stream music online and others prefer to hold the physical copy in their hands. The calls for vinyl also getting louder, so it is likely that our album will also be released on vinyl. It is important to Tim and us that every loyal fan and supporter gets what they want.

How is born your collaboration with WTR Records?
Tim and i met on Facebook, the first contact between us was around the beginning of 2020. We then talked from time to time via Messenger and via Facebook tim heard that there was new material from us and that we wanted to record the songs in the studio soon to release our first album. He was interested in it and wanted to hear it as soon as we recorded the first song. So he got this one too, liked it a lot and the rest is history. He signed us and now we´re happy and proud to be a part of the WTF Family.

Are you ready to back on the road after the live concerts stop?
Definitely, we can’t wait to get back on stage. we have already received one or the other request for live shows. it is only a matter of time before we can be back on stage, and we will enjoy that even more after these hard times. Perfect Sky will be back soon, hopefully! We are already scraping in the starting blocks!
