I Drunkroll, dopo aver pubblicato nel 2020 l’album “Freakingface” (Metal Scrap Records) stanno sfruttando il lockdown per produrre il nuovo materiale che finirà sul prossimo album. Abbiamo contattato i russi per fare il punto della situazione.

Benvenuti ragazzi, quando avete formato originariamente la band e questa è la formazione originale?
Druknroll: La band è nata nel 2006 con Horror alla voce, Jester alla batteria e io che suonavo tutto il resto. Nel 2013, Jester ci ha lasciato per portare avanti altri progetti ma rimanendo nostro amico. Dopo il 2017 abbiamo preso a bordo il chitarrista Denis e il polistrumentista Oleg. Questa è la nostra formazione più recente ed è questa che registrato lil nostro album

Quali obiettivi sperate di raggiungere con i Drunkroll?
Oleg: Attualmente, il nostro obbiettivo è fare musica quanto più interessante e straordinaria possibile. Può sembrare arrogante, ma vogliamo arrivare a un livello superiore. Ben più interessante!
Denys: Il nostro obiettivo principale è rendere il nostro seguito molto più grande! Vogliamo attirare quanti più fan possibili e far conoscere loro la nostra musica.
Druknroll: Banging, thrashing, kicking, punching and druknrolling metal music! Preferiamo il come ai modi!

Vi state stai esibendo attualmente o siete fermi a causa della pandemia?
Oleg: Stiamo ragionando sul nuovo materiale. Molte band lo stanno facendo ora. Penso che questa sia una buona via d’uscita in questo momento di crisi.
Druknroll: La pandemia non ci ha spaventato affatto. Ci stiamo facendo il culo come è sempre!

Quanto è importante l’attività live per una band underground come la vostra?
Denys: Penso che non sia un segreto che ogni musicista vorrebbe concentrarsi al 100% sulla musica e farne un lavoro. Se sei una band underground significa, allora, che hai una vita normale con la sua routine. L’attività dal vivo e le esibizioni sono estremamente importanti ma a volte non ha la forza per mettercela tutta.
Oleg: Penso che non sia così importante. I Darkthrone non si sono mai esibite e sono delle leggende.
Druknroll: Penso che i concerti siano molto importanti per ogni band. Ma dal momento che non ne abbiamo mai fatto uno, non posso dirtelo con certezza.

Il vostro ultimo album è “Freakingface” (2020), siete ancora soddisfatti?
Denys: Sì, perché guardando indietro, possiamo dire con certezza che eravamo al massimo del nostro potenziale in quel momento. Come possiamo non essere soddisfatti di noi stessi? Non è megalomania, per questo stiamo ancora esplorando i nostri limiti.
Oleg: Penso che sia molto buono. Penso che troverà un posto nelle collezioni dei metallari
Druknroll: Certo che lo siamo! Abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio durante la registrazione dell’album. Quindi, sì, siamo pienamente soddisfatti di ciò che ne è venuto fuori.

State già lavorando alle nuove canzoni?
Denys: Certo, lo siamo e speriamo che vi piacerà!
Oleg: Abbiamo quasi finito il nuovo album. Vi farà esplodere la testa.
Druknroll: Sì, il nostro lavoro non si è mai fermato. Tutte le nuove canzoni verranno registrate entro la fine dell’anno. Poi pubblichiamo un EP all’inizio del prossimo anno, come ho detto, e poi arriverà un full lenght. Rimanete sintonizzati.

Ascolteremo un nuovo album in linea con “Freakingface” o il vostro sound è cambiato in questi mesi?
Denys: Avevo un’ossessione per i giri armonici, quindi ci saranno un sacco di cose da sballo.
Druknroll: Vorremmo modificare un po’ il suono, ci stiamo pensando parecchio in questi giorni. Ma l’idea di base un potente attacco metallico rimarrà invariata.

Il nuovo disco uscirà su Metal Scrap Records?
Druknroll: Sì! Amiamo la nostra etichetta e siamo convinti che continueremo a lavorare con lei ancora per molto.

Drunkroll, after releasing the album “Freakingface” in 2020 are taking advantage of the lockdown to produce the new material for the next album. We contacted the Russians to take stock of the situation.

Welcome, when did you originally form and is this the original line-up?
Druknroll: The band came to exist in 2006 with Horror on vocals, Jester on drums and me playing everything else. In 2013, Jester left us to pursue other projects but remaining our friend. After 2017 we got guitarist Denis and multi-instrumentalist Oleg on board. This is our most recent line-up and this is who record our music.

What new goals do you hope to achieve with Drunkroll?
Oleg: Currently, our task is to make as interesting and extraordinary music that we can. It may sound arrogant, but we want to take it to the next level. Be more interesting!
Denys: Our main goal is to make our musical community much bigger! We want to attract as many fans as possible and introduce them to our music.
Druknroll: Banging, thrashing, kicking, punching and druknrolling metal music! We prefer the process to the results.

Are you currently performing or are you stopped due to the pandemic?
Oleg: We are thinking about a stream where we can present new material. Many bands are doing this now. I think this is a good way out at this time.
Druknroll: Pandemic didn’t scare us at all. We are working our asses off as it always was and is.

How important is live activity for an underground band like you?
Denys: I think it’s not a secret that every musician wants to be 100% focused on a music as a lifework. If you’re an underground band or a musician it means that you have regular life with routine. Live activity and performances are extremely important but sometimes you don’t feel the strenght to pust it hard enough.
Oleg: I think it’s not that important. Darkthrone never performed and they remain legends.
Druknroll: I think gigs are very important for every band. But since we never played one I can’t tell you for sure.

Your last album is “Freakingface” (2020), are you still satisfied?
Denys: Yes, ‘cause looking back there were the best versions of us at this moment. How can you be unsatisfied with yourself? I mean it’s not a megalomania and we are still exploring our limits of possibilities.
Oleg: I think it will turn out to be very good. I think it will take a place in the collections of metalheads.
Druknroll: Of course we are! We tried our best and put the best of us in while recording the album. So, yeah, we are fully satisfied with what it appeared to be.

Are you already working on the new songs?
Denys: Sure, we are and we’re hope you’ll gonna like it!
Oleg: We have almost finished the new album. he should blow your head off.
Druknroll: Yes, this work never stopped actually. All the new songs are to be recorded till the end of the year. Then we release an EP early next year, as I said, and then a full-length comes. Stay tuned.

Will we listen to a new album in line with “Freakingface” or has your sound changed in these months?
Denys: I had an obsession with harmonic squeals so there will be a lot of whammy bar stuff.
Druknroll: We wanted to alter the sound a bit, we are thinking about it right now. But the idea of powerful metal-attack will remain unchanged.

Will the new record be released on Metal Scrap Records?
Druknroll: Yeah! We love our label and are willing to work with it again and further.
