A sorpresa, i Blind Illusion sono tornati con “Wrath of the Gods”, il nuovo album in uscita il 7 ottobre sotto la Hammerheart Records. La band di Marc Biedermann era riapparsa sulla scena nel 2010 con “Demon Master”, disco che però non aveva saputo dare l’abbrivio a una nuova fase della loro carriera. Siamo tutti però sicuri che l’eccellente “Wrath of the Gods” potrà finalmente riportare sotto i riflettori una delle band più sottovalutate degli anni ’80.
Ciao Marc, quanto è difficile rimettere insieme una band dopo una lunga pausa?
Effettivamente è piuttosto difficile, devi essere molto paziente.
Come hai convinto Doug Pearcy (ex-Heathen) Any Galon (Death Angel) a unirsi a te in questa nuova avventura?
Sia Doug Piercy che Andy Galeon sono entrambi miei amici di lunga data e ho sempre voluto unire le mie forze con le loro.
Qual è stato il loro contributo alla scrittura delle canzoni?
Grandioso, noi tutti, compreso il bassista Tom Gears, abbiamo lo stesso spirito.
Le canzoni sono tutte nuove o hai insrtio qualcosa nella tracklist che avevi nel cassetto da anni?
Per lo più è tutto materiale nuovo con giusti alcuni riff qua e là che erano finiti nel dimenticatoio. Naturalmente molti riconosceranno “Slow Death” dalla demo del 1986.
E le due bonus track incluse nella versione CD?
“No Rest Till Budapest” ha alcuni riff che provengono dal passato che sono tempi in chiave dispari. “The Amazing Maniacal Monolith” ha riff e progressioni per lo più tutti nuovi.
Sei totalmente soddisfatto del nuovo album? Che posto occupa “Wrath of the Gods” nella vostra discografia?
Sono assolutamente soddisfatto. È il numero uno nella mia playlist.
Ci saranno date a supporto dell’album?
Certo che ci saranno.
Pensi che con una maggiore stabilità della formazione il destino della band sarebbe stato diverso? Hai qualche rimpianto?
Ora siamo solidi e questo è ciò che conta. Nessun rimpianto.
“Wrath of the Gods” avrà un successore?
Assolutamente!
Surprisingly, Blind Illusion are back with “Wrath of the Gods”, the new album out on October 7 under Hammerheart Records. Marc Biedermann‘s band had reappeared on the scene in 2010 with “Demon Master”, a record which, however, had not been able to give a definitive start to a new phase of their career. We all, however, are sure that the excellent “Wrath of the Gods” can definitely bring one of the most underrated bands of the 80s back into the spotlight.
Hi Marc, how hard is it to put a band back together after a long hiatus?
It’s actually quite difficult, you have to be very patient.
How did you convince Doug Pearcy (ex-Heathen) Any Galon (Death Angel) to join you in this new adventure?
Both Doug Piercy and Andy Galeon are long time friends of mine that I have always wanted to join forces with.
What was their contribution to songwriting?
Well along with bassist Tom Gears we all have equal input.
Are all the songs new or have you put something on the tracklist that you have kept in your drawer for years?
Mostly all new with a few riffs here and there that have been on the back burner. Of course many will recognize “Slow Death” from the 1986 Demo.
What about the two bonus tracks included in the CD version?
“No Rest Till Budapest” has a few riffs from back in the day that are odd time signatures. “The Amazing Maniacal Monolith” has riffs and progressions from all of us , mostly all new.
Are you fully satisfied with the new album? What place does “Wrath of the Gods” occupy in your discography?
Absolutely completely satisfied. It is number one in my playlist.
Will there be any dates to support the album?
Of course there will be.
Do you think that with more stability in the line-up the fate of the band would have been different? Do you have any regrets?
We are stable now and that is what matters. No regrets.
Will “Wrath of the Gods” have a successor?
Absolutely!
