I Night Attack sono la nuova band fondata da Charles Lucia, meglio noto come Verigo (Vesterian and Ancestral Blood). Dopo aver firmato un contratto con la Metal Scrap Records, la compagine ha pubblicato l’EP di debutto “The Initiation”, un vero e proprio “attacco notturno” di aggressive blackned death thrash!
Benvenuto Verigo, potresti presentare la tua band ai nostri lettori?
Siamo i Night Attack da Charlotte, North Carolina. La nostra prima formazione risale al 2016, composta principalmente da amici della mia gioventù. Dopodiché, è diventato difficile scovare membri che potessero suonare abbastanza velocemente del metal old school. Trovare musicisti affidabili è sempre stato un grosso problema in NC. A volte, in passato, mi sono ritrovato a lavorare con le persone sbagliate solo perché erano le uniche disponibili in città. Alla fine ho deciso di registrare tutto il materiale da solo. Ho trovato il batterista Jake Anantha per caso e sono contento, abbiamo dato il via insieme alle registrazioni di “The Initiation”. Tutte le canzoni le ho scritte principalmente in tre giorni nel 2015, durante una baldoria mattutina a base di caffè. Sono molto contento della nostra attuale formazione.
Come descrivi il vostro suono?
Lo definisco aggressive blackened death thrash in stile fine anni ’80 per distinguerci dal thrash metal più popolare e moderno di oggi, che io etichetto come party-thrash con voci fastidiose. Il moniker definisce anche il modo in cui ci approcciamo alla nostra musica, cioè in uno stile più tradizionale e con un atteggiamento serioso e cupo. Ho sempre pensato che tra la metà e la fine degli anni ’80 il thrash è diventato decisamente troppo buono. Tuttavia, non fraintendermi, ci piace fare festa a base di thrash e ci piace ascoltare alcune di queste band, ma musicalmente non è ciò che vogliamo esprimere. Andrò sempre a casa e metterò sul piatto “Coma of Souls” dei Kreator. Non siamo qui per seguire nessuna moda dettata dalle band moderne oggi o per reinventare il thrash degli anni ’80. Vogliamo solo rivivere i vecchi tempi del metal con personalità, attitudine, visione e una certa vena oscura. Questa è la musica che volevo suonare durante la mia adolescenza, ma in quel momento ho pensato che fosse una cosa vetusta, una cosa ormai passata. Parlo di un’epoca in cui il thrash di fine anni ’80 si stava spostando verso il death metal o l’hardcore punk. Le persone della vecchia scuola sanno di cosa sto parlando.
Potresti presentare il vostro EP di debutto, “The Initiation”?
“The Initiation” contiene metal estremo, tecnico e oscuro, influenzato da visioni occulte e teatralità vampiresca, ricco di sfumature blackned death metal e parti aggressive di war metal. Uno stile musicale che credo possa essere ben accolto dai thrasher e dai metallari in genere inclusi quelli che ascoltano black metal, punk, persino goth e hardcore.
Quali obiettivi vorreste raggiungere con questo album?
Intendiamo portare il metal old school a un pubblico più ampio con un approccio artistico, fantasioso e ortodosso.
Dai una valenza politica ai tuoi testi?
I Night Attack non provano alcun interesse per la politica.
Che mi dici della copertina?
La copertina dell’album è stata ideata da me e da un mio amico. Siamo entrambi molto interessati alle leggende occulte e oscure.
Avete realizzato in collaborazione con Metal Scrap Records il vostro EP di debutto, sei soddisfatto del lavoro svolto dalla vostra etichetta?
Sono molto contento del lavoro e dell’impegno della nostra etichetta. Sono sempre sul pezzo e ci hanno aiutato molto.
Promuoverete sul palco il nuovo EP?
Sì, ci siamo appena esibiti nel nostro primo live e abbiamo ricevuto reazioni positive dal pubblico. Da quello che abbiamo visto, la nostra musica è decisamente per headbanger e mosher!

Night Attack is the new band founded by Charles Lucia, better known as Verigo (Vesterian and Ancestral Blood). After signing a deal with Metal Scrap Records, the band released the debut EP “The Initiation”, a real “nocturnal attack” of aggressive blackened death thrash!
Welcome Verigo, could you introduce your band to our readers?
We are Night Attack from Charlotte NC. Our first line up was established in 2016 which mostly consistent of guys from my youth. After that, it became difficult to find members that could play fast enough and into the old school metal. Finding reliable musicians, as always been a big problem in NC. Sometimes in the past we end up working with people we shouldn’t had just because he is the only guy in town. Eventually I decided to record all of the material myself. I found drummer Jake Anantha by chance and glad. We gave birth to the recording of Night Attack’s, “The Initiation”. All songs I mostly wrote in three days back in 2015 on a morning coffee thrash spree. Ha. I am very happy with our 2022 line up.
How do you describe your sound?
We call it late 80s aggressive blackened death thrash to separate us from todays more popular and modernized thrash metal. Those are the more party style thrash with annoying to me vocals. The title also defines how we approach our music, which is in a more traditional style and with a serious attitude and dark. I did feel in the mid and late 80s all thrash started to get really good. However, don’t get us wrong, We like to party and thrash and we enjoy listening to some of these bands, but it’s not musically what we feel to express. I will always go home and play Kreator’s “Coma of Souls”. We are not here to follow any trend of modern bands today. Or to reinvent the 80s thrash. Only to bring back the old days of metal with our own redevelopment, attitude, representation and a darker shade of style. This is the music I wanted to play in my early teens. But I thought it was overdue and a thing of the past at that time. A time when the end of 80s thrash was moving towards death metal or hardcore punk. Old school people know what I’m talking about.
Could you to introduce your debut EP, “The Initiation”?
“The Initiation” brings dark, upbeat extreme technical metal based on occultic views and vampirism done with a theatrical twist into imaginative thought and with a blackened death and war metal aggressions. The musical style I believe can be accepted by thrashers, and metal heads of all genres including black metal, punk, even goth, and hardcore.
What goals would you like to achieve with this album?
We intend to bring old school metal to a wider audience with a artistic and imaginative and old world approach.
Do you give a political meaning to your lyrics?
Night Attack has no connection with politics.
What’s about the cover artwork?
The album cover was represented by myself and a friend of mine. We are both equally deep into the occult and dark legends.
You realized in cooperation with Metal Scrap Records your debut EP, are you satisfied with the work done by your label?
I’m very happy with the work and dedicated effort we are getting from our label. They definitely keeps on their toes and have helped us out greatly.
Will you promote on stage the new EP?
Yes, we just performed our first show and got great positive crowd reactions. From what we witnessed, the music is definitely for headbangers and moshers.
